ADOLESCENT Psychotherapy

A lot of change and development happens in the teen years. To support teens holistically, I take a family-oriented approach. Therapy is often more effective when the parents and I work together to support their teen. Therefore, I regularly work extensively with parents, especially at the beginning of treatment. When indicated, it may also be helpful to collaborate with other important adults in the teen’s life (e.g., teachers, coaches, and schools).

Therapy may help teens:

• Cope with and reduce anxiety and depression

• Develop a positive self-concept

• Explore their identity, sexuality, and gender

• Manage stress

• Navigate conflict constructively

• Process grief and/or trauma

• For teens with an identity as an athletes or performer - I often work with these adolescents and their families to support the ongoing efforts of balancing their aspirations and the pressures of their sport (or activity) with the demands of adolescent development.
